One of these prisms is much more complicated. Which one?
The Mini Pyratwist and Triangular Cheese are two-layered triangular prisms that look identical externally, but are completely different to solve. Both of them can make 120 degree turns on the slice layer, and 180 degree turns vertically. What differentiates them, is the Triangular Cheese is additionally able to make vertical turns after turning the slice only 60 degrees. The Mini Pyratwist was 3D-printed using SLS by its designer Greg Pfennig, while I 3D-printed the Triangular Cheese using FDM in PLA.

Sun Cuboid
Переглядів 1,9 тис.5 місяців тому
The Sun Cuboid is the result of two 3x3 cuboids being superimposed onto a single puzzle at a 45 degree offset. It is conceptually similar to the Waterfall Cube, which is comprised of two 3x3 cuboids superimposed at a 9 degree offset, but the Sun Cuboid and Waterfall Cube have completely different geometry and are solved with unrelated methods. The Sun Cuboid was designed by Marcell Magori, who ...
Square-5
Переглядів 41 тис.6 місяців тому
The Square-5 is a variant of the popular Square-1 puzzle, with 24 pieces per layer in 10, 15, and 20 degree increments. It is much more difficult to solve than all of the previous puzzles in the Square-1 series. Much of it can be done with Square-2 algorithms, but returning the puzzle back to the cubic shape still takes a very long time. Overall, it is a very interesting puzzle and quite fun al...

The Recrystallized is a shapemod of a Pyraminx Crystal into a rhombic dodecahedron. It was made by Michael Beach, who sanded and polished the puzzle a ton to give it a mass-produced look. Its solving difficulty is the same as a regular Pyraminx Crystal, but it shapeshifts unlike the base puzzle. Check out Michael Beach: mikebeach26 The Puzzle Advent Calendar is a collaboration be...

The Ghost Tower is a shapemod of a 2x2x4 cuboid, with offset cuts and holographic stickers. It was made by B Cubes by extending a WitEden 2x2x4 with PETG 3D-printed extensions, and a ton of sanding and polishing. It is fun to solve, being less tedious than the 3x3 Ghost Cube, but is still a fair challenge. Check out B Cubes: b_cubes_ The Puzzle Advent Calendar is a collaboration ...
I made a 3x3 Square-1! (Waterfall Cube)
Переглядів 3 тис.7 місяців тому
The Waterfall Cube is a 3x3 equivalent of a Square-1. The Square-1 is two Windmill 2x2x3 puzzles superimposed, while the Waterfall Cube is two Windmill 3x3s superimposed. It is made by extending a base mini 3x3 with 3D-printed parts, with two separate outer layers. The puzzle shape-shifts quite a lot, and is fairly difficult to solve, requiring cuboid and Square-1 algorithms. The Puzzle Advent ...

The mini 2x3x5 is a 3D-printed cuboid designed and produced by Alex Maass, and sold by the Cubicle. Curved 2x2 Experiment
Переглядів 1,4 тис.8 місяців тому
The Curved 2x2s are an experiment to see what would happen if geometric deep cuts were to be curved on a face-turning cube. My previous Cursed Square-1 had similar geometry, and was a fully functioning puzzle, so I wanted to run this experiment to get a baseline for the concept. The goal is to see whether any of the three curved 2x2s (one with 1 curved cut, one with 2, and the final one with 3)...
Cursed Square-1
Переглядів 2,5 тис.Рік тому
The Cursed Square-1 is a regular Square-1 with curved vertical cuts. Because the Square-1 is deep cut, these curved cuts cause significant bandaging, since they make the edges and corners no longer all equivalent. There are now two distinct types of edges, and four distinct types of corners. While from a blank slate, the Cursed Square-1 is likely easier to solve than a real Square-1, it is made...
Melting Rubik's Cube

The Melting 3x3 is a physical version of the Melting Rubik's Cube artwork, with a variant where the 3x3 is mostly unbandaged. However, the melted layer has some external bandaging due to different cut sketches being used. It can be frustrating to perform algorithms on this puzzle, but overall it isn't significantly more difficult to solve than a regular 3x3. It was made as an extension mod of a...
Shattered Square-1 | Puzzle Advent Calendar
Переглядів 3,6 тис.Рік тому
The Shattered Square-1 is possibly the weirdest Square-1 ever made. It appears to be a Mirror Square-1 with curved cuts, but internally the top and bottom layers are actually at offset angles, and do not share an axis. This means that the puzzle shapeshifts a lot more than a regular Square-1, and is quite trippy to look at and solve. It has a 2-color scheme of holographic vinyl stickers, which ...

Переглядів 1,5 тис.Рік тому
The Super Floppy 1x2x3 is a twisty puzzle originally designed by Grant Andersen. It is mechanically equivalent to a 3x3x2 with no corners, but can be more simply described as a 1x2x3 that can make 90 degree turns on the tall axis. It is much more fulfilling to solve than a regular 1x2x3, especially if the small semicircle parts aren't manipulated on their own. 0:00 Intro 0:33 Origins 1:48 Desig...
Crazy Split 1x2x3
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Рік тому
The Crazy Split 1x2x3 is a twisty puzzle designed by Marcell Mágori. It is based on the basic 1x2x3 cuboid, but is split in many more ways, including parts split in half and in a circular fashion. This makes the puzzle act as a bandaged circle 4x4x2 cuboid, and the solving experience is quite unique. Once you figure it out, it's not too difficult, but the concepts may initially take a while to ...
Square-3
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
The Square-3 is a higher order puzzle in the Square-1 series. It is a Square-2 with edges split in half, resulting in 16 pieces per layer. The split corners and edges seem similar to those of the Waterfall Cube Supreme, but are identical rather than being chiral. The puzzle solves exactly like a Square-2 after all of the split edges are paired up, but the pairing can take a while and be fairly ...
Mental Flop Extreme

The Mental Flop Extreme is a hybrid of a 2x2x3 cuboid and a 1x3x3 Floppy Cube, with the appearance of a 1x3x3. It has a fully 3D-printed mechanism based on a 19x19x57 mm 2x2x3, with added mechanism and parts. It is surprisingly interesting to solve, as solving the inner 2x2x3 may leave the outer Floppy Cube in an unsolvable configuration, thus necessitating further 2x2x3 moves. 0:00 Intro 0:41 ...

i use a method for my pentahedra (i have the 3 and 5 layer) that mostly just uses RURURURUR (where R is a face, not an edge) to 4-cycle edges. its maybe a little less intuitive, but it works.

Technically the Waterfall Cube Supreme is similar to the Square-2, in that the corners are split in half. But adding more splits quickly makes really small parts that might not hook in well. So more advanced unbandaged Waterfall cubes may be restricted to virtual puzzles.

Calvin's "square-3" is really a square-1.5. If you buy a Square-1 and a Square-2 and switch the pieces, you will end up with two Square-1.5's, thus adding up to a square-3. The addition of the two square-1.5's is why the "plus" is in the title. Or it was just a marketing decision but this is more fun
